Listed below are some highlights of a visit to the Oregon coast. Everything listed here is within 30 miles of the See Vue.

Cape Perpetua-
From Cape Perpetua, the highest point on the Oregon Coast, see the view for miles in both directions from a stonework shelter built here by the CCC during the Depression. Visit Devil's Churn, a wide crack in the dark basalt sea cliff where Pacific Ocean waves show their awesome power. Visit the Forest Service's Cape Perpetua Visitors Center for various educational programs involving the area around Cape Perpetua. The center is also home to exhibits, a small bookshop, and a small theater for natural history films.

The nearby Yachats River is a popular spot for salmon and steelhead fishing. Local seaside restaurants have spectacular ocean views. Yachats is also home to several festivals and events, including the La De Da Parade on the 4th of July. Call us at the See Vue for information about these events.

Florence and the Oregon Dunes-
Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area stretches over 50 miles from Florence to Coos Bay. The sand dunes are sometimes as high as 300 feet. The National Recreation Area serves the recreational needs of a wide variety of users, including hikers, photographers, and off-road vehicle enthusiasts. In the late spring, with the blooming of the rhododendrons, Florence is home to the annual Rhododendron Festival in May.

Whale Watching-
Gray whales pass by the See Vue twice a year, as they travel between northern waters and their breeding grounds off Mexico. See the whales from your room or enjoy a chartered whale watching trip out of one of the nearby coastal towns.

Heceta Head Light House-
The Heceta Head Lighthouse is located 10 miles south of the See Vue on the west side of 1000-foot high Heceta Head. The lighthouse is still active and sends out the strongest light on the Oregon Coast. A trail from the beach leads to the the historic assistant lighthouse keeper's house (Heceta House). The lighthouse is an interactive living history center.

The Central Oregon Coast Cliffs
Sea Lion Caves-
Just a couple miles south of the Heceta Head Lighthouse lies the Sea Lion Caves, the largest sea cave in the world. "The ocean, sometimes wild and always wonderful, surges into and out of the cave where a herd of wild, golden Steller sea lions and their black pups take shelter. In summer during the breeding season, enormous bulls weighing up to 2000 pounds join the herd on rock ledges just outside the cave. Sea Lion Caves, home of wild Steller sea lions, has been called 'the treasure of the Oregon Coast.'"

Antiques and Galleries-
Use the See Vue as your home base while exploring the many antique shops and galleries that dot the coast between Florence and Newport. See local artisans work in the many galleries found in Florence, Yachats, Waldport, Seal Rock, and Newport. The drive alone makes for a wonderful day.
